Community outreach

We’re here to help. Our service is free, independent, and fair for all New Zealanders.

Utilities such as a steady, secure supply of electricity, gas and water are an essential to daily living.  We build relationships with individuals and community groups across New Zealand so that anyone, anywhere in Aotearoa knows we are here to help them resolve utilities disputes.

We can help you and your communities in a number of ways:

  • Speaking at community meetings. We work together with other community organisations to support and educate consumers on how we can help them.  
  • We have information sheets that help explain how UDL can help
  • Working through specific examples of issues that communities (businesses or individuals) may be faced with.  
  • Helping people contact their providers so their disputes are more effectively heard. We can refer a dispute to the provider or member, explain the process, and give information about past disputes
  • Promoting accessibility. When you call us, you speak to a real person. We use Interpreting NZ interpreters and the Relay service for the hearing impaired   
  • Sharing expertise. Our staff are trained mediators who investigate what happened and facilitate resolution using various techniques, including conciliation conferences.  We use independent technical and legal experts when necessary

UDL Outreach

  • Jessica works in the community meeting with many different organisations and groups to talk about UDL and how we can help resolve complaints  between energy companies and individuals.  These meetings can be with any number of people including the celebration of International Women's Day which is recognised across the work on 8 March. 

    Working with the community can present itself in many ways and here is one that shows the breadth of work Jessica does.

We all have the potential to make a difference to an individual, an organisation, a community. UDL resolves disputes about electricity, gas, water, and broadband installation on shared property.
