Scam warnings
Stay aware and protect yourself
Utilities Disputes Ltd (UDL) is aware of a number of potential scams including:
-
An imposter scam – this is where you receive a call from a scammer who pretends they are calling from a genuine and trusted company. In this case it’s the price comparison service, Glimp. It could also be someone pretending to be UDL or your power company. The scammer will ask you to send them money as payment towards your power bill – however they have no association with Glimp, your power company, or UDL and your money will be stolen.
-
A phishing scam – this is where scammers use a variety of different methods including emails and websites to lure you into providing personal information, contact details, money, login details or passwords in return for a discount on your internet or energy bill. The information will then be used to gain fraudulent access to your accounts.
If you receive a suspicious call or contact from anyone describing themselves as from UDL, Glimp, or your power company, you should:
-
end the contact and call UDL on 0800 22 33 40 or the relevant organisation using the number they publish on their website, so you can confirm whether the call is legitimate
-
report the incident to your bank if you believe you may have been scammed or are concerned you have provided sensitive information
-
report the incident to CERTNZ via https://www.cert.govt.nz/individuals/report-an-issue/
-
call CERTNZ to discuss your concerns on 0800 CERT NZ (0800 2378 69).
Please note that under no circumstances will UDL ever contact you to ask you for money, your login details or password.
